May 29

The day started at the Shunyi Flower Port. Here they had huge, very high-tech greenhouses were they were growing massive amounts of flowers. I saw some giant geraniums that I had never seen before. It was interesting to find that they import large quantities of flowers directly from Amsterdam. The control room where they mix their nutrient solution was very impressive and everything was automated.

Impressive geraniums

In the afternoon, we traveled to the Great Wall. Several of the students we'd met earlier traveled with us. The walk up to the entrance was filled with street vendors selling everything you might want, and for every price! It was great to have the Chinese students with us to help bargain. We took a lift up to the top of the wall.. which saved us quite the walk! We walked around for several hours, and it did not get any less unbelievable. The scale of the wall is simply hard to put into words. Definitely checked this off my bucket list!
