We
started the morning heading to Xiaotangshan to see the specialty veggie and
fruit production. Everything was indoors in very large, climate-controlled
greenhouses. The anthurium cut flower production was extensive, and the plants
looked excellent. I thought it was very interesting that they have been using
the same medium for the past 10 years without experiencing disease pressure.
There was also a lot of strawberry production. We also saw our first Chinese
solar greenhouse, where they were growing peas.

In
the afternoon, we went to the CAAS Ag Science & Technology Demo Park. It
was a beautiful facility, and their offices were inside a giant, climate
controlled greenhouse that seemed like an indoor park. There was also a
great deal of hydroponic and NFT production.
